It's World Cocktail Day so here's a little ode to It's World Cocktail Day so here's a little ode to the Pisco Sour!

During my 10-day jaunt through Peru last month, not only did I down several pisco sours but I also learnt how to make one in a cooking class at @rooftopkitchenperu in Cusco. The standard recipe is three ounces of pisco and one ounce each of simple syrup, lime juice, and egg white. Mix it all in a cocktail shaker, add plenty of ice, and shake vigorously. After straining it into a glass (usually a rocks, old fashioned or a coupe glass), the final flourish is to add three drops of Angostura bitters.

Later that evening, I also learnt some tips and tricks from Miguel, the mixologist at @hotelpalaciodelinka’s Rumi Bar, including how to use an ancient Inca apparatus to make the cocktail!

Read all about pisco sour (and pisco, Peru's national spirit that makes it possible) in my weekend feature for @livemintlounge, link in bio.

Footloose in Lima!  The Peruvian capital is a de Footloose in Lima!

The Peruvian capital is a delight to explore - from the historic city centre to the trendy Miraflores and Barranco neighbourhoods to the lively markets in Surquillo and Surco to the fishing district of Chorrillos. Plus there's fantastic food to savour, from street carts to world-class restaurants. What's not to love?

Pic 18 is of my charming room at the boutique @antiguahotel in Miraflores that I booked at the end of my trip, while the last sunset pic is from the rooftop bar of @pullmanlimamiraflores where I stayed on my first night in the city when I was #hosted by @perutravel.me & @oftripsandtales

Deep in the Peruvian Amazon, Refugio Amazonas is a Deep in the Peruvian Amazon, Refugio Amazonas is a stunning ecolodge that's a delightful oasis in the wild. To reach it, you have to take an hour-long bumpy road trip followed by a 45-minute boat ride on the Tambopata river, climb about a 100 steps, and walk through the rainforest. But when you get there, you realise that it's totally worth it.

Here's a glimpse of the property, including my expansive open-to-the-nature deluxe suite. These 913sq ft suites are newly launched in March 2025 and feature two queen beds with mosquito nets (you'll need them!), en suite bathroom with hot shower and eco-friendly toiletries, private terrace with hammock, outdoor bathtub, and shower (swipe for the video walkthrough).

The resort has 24-hour electricity and Wi-fi, all powered by a combination of solar and generator. Buffet meals are included where you get a taste of delicious Amazonian and Peruvian food.

As I'm writing about my adventures in the Peruvian As I'm writing about my adventures in the Peruvian Amazon, I had to share one of my favourite experiences - visiting the macaw clay lick in Tambopata National Reserve.

Woke up at 4 a.m., walked bleary-eyed in the pitch-dark rainforest, and shivered on a nearly two-hour boat ride as the wind whipped my face. As the sun rose, we reached our destination - a small river island across which a clay cliff loomed up.

Suddenly, shrieks and caws filled the air as scores of macaws, parakeets, and parrots swooped down to the clay lick (locally known as collpa) for their breakfast. The birds munch on the clay to get necessary nutrients to supplement their sodium-poor diet. It was certainly one of the most colourful wildlife spectacles I had ever seen!

While the birds feasted, we too had our breakfast, an elaborate spread of bread, eggs, avocado, cereals, plantain chips, cake, tea, coffee, and more brought in on the boat by @rainforestexpeditions #hosted

Bonus capybara pics at the end 😍

Don't miss the bread that's freshly-made in a 200+ year-old Colonial-style oven. And if you go on a weekend, you may catch a lively parade too!
